Turning away
From the filth and gloom
of the city,
My eyes fell on a tree,
And I was transfixed to the earth:
Its greenness gave me
A divine ecstasy,
And I,
standing
On the threshold of the tree’s Temple,
Said a prayer of astonishment
In my revering silence.
