OLD AND YOUNG

For Kaveh & Anja Kianush

I was forty
And looked an old man
In the eyes of my son.
“I am still young,” I said,
But he turned his head
To hide his laughter of disbelief.

Now that he has passed his forty,
And my seventy
                is a few months away,
I say to him with a sigh:
“I am really old, my son!”
And he looks at me with disbelief,
And exclaims with confidence:
“Who says you are old!”
